The Department maintains a K-9 Unit comprised of
one patrol dog and officer handler. The psychological deterrence
to crime, superior speed, and scenting abilities of K-9s is
used in support of the patrol and investigative functions to
apprehend offenders, recover evidence, and improve officer
safety within the Department.
The large
geographical and wooded terrain of Yorktown has proven to be a
challenge in locating persons. Police dogs have been used to
great advantage in searching for lost person(s). The Yorktown
Police K-9 unit is frequently requested by neighboring police
agencies throughout Westchester and Putnam counties. |
